The Transportation Research Group (TRG) from the University of Southampton organized a stakeholder consultation on May 27. The main objectives were to present the SMARTFREIGHT project, to introduce the concept of urban traffic and freight distribution management systems and to identify key user needs for both of them. Other presentations included: the EC funded project START; issues in setting up a freight consolidation centre in South London; fleet management by the Royal Mail; and the ROMANSE traffic control centre. The meeting was chaired by Steve Norris (President of ITS UK). As WP2 leader, TRG will incorporate the results of this meeting into D2.2 'Stakeholder Consultation and System Performance Scenarios'.
