WP4: Onboard support and control on top of CALM

The aim of this SMARTFREIGHT activity is to:

• analyse, design and implement generic solutions for on-board and on-cargo equipment needed to support innovative freight distribution services
• make prototypes of on-board equipment based on CALM MAIL to support vehicle-to-cargo communication
• make prototypes of on-cargo equipment (tags), supporting communication through CALM MAIL
• assess an open application framework to support freight specific services
• carry out a proof-of-concept implementation of selected services defined in WP 5 and WP 6
• assess and specify the wireless communication infrastructure supporting the SMARTFREIGHT framework architecture.

Work Package 4 consists of four main tasks:

• development of on-board hardware
• development of on-cargo unit
• assessment of open application framework and development of proof-of-concept applications
• assessment of wireless technologies for freight distribution and traffic management applications
